The songwriters have a simple agenda: share their experiences in dealing with that gap.

Papuri! 20 is a collection of musically-rich precepts from God’s Word in contemporary settings of jazz, ballad, pop and even Pinoy styles.

Here’s a sampling:

• Jim San Juan sings the theme song “Babalik-Balikan” by Toi Polo, expressing pure and heartfelt praise bursts from the heart and that you just have to return to again and again.
• Tricia Amper-Jimenez interprets Dodjie Simon’s poignant “Dinggin Mo”, a prayer to bring our nation back to God.
• Reuben Laurente renders Henry Gasser’s declaration in song, “Sa ‘Yo Lang” in his effortless yet impassioned signature style.
• Dulce brings her musical maturity to full use in a breathtaking take of Rhoen Del Monte’s “Sa Iyo Lumalapit”, a response to Jesus’ invitation, “Come to Me…”
• Mario Lajarca, Jr. will inspire you to trust Jesus completely with Soc Villanueva’s jazz ballad, “Si Jesus ang Bahala”.

The songs of Papuri! 20 are the personal stories of the songwriters and the singers, and they can be your own story as well. Does this sound familiar:

Filipino songwriters join the conversation on how to face the struggles of life. Twelve original
compositions comprise the newest musical project from FEBC Philippines, focusing on themes like
faith in an unchanging God, discovering life’s purpose, passion for life-change and for a transformed
Philippines. The collection, entitled “PAPURI! 20 – Babalik-Balikan”, will be launched in a concert on October 14, 2011, 3:00 and 7:30 PM at Greenhills Christian Fellowship, Ortigas Center, Pasig, Metro Manila.

The songs were written by seasoned Christian OPM songwriters, including Dodjie Simon, Arnel De Pano,
Soc Villanueva and Ricky Sanchez, and produced by Jungee Marcelo and Arnel De Pano. The album
showcases the talents of Reuben Laurente, Dulce, Tricia Amper-Jimenez, Richard Reynoso, Jim San Juan,
and many more. The album launch will feature two medleys that weave together the musical highlights
of PAPURI! since its inception in 1979.

The songs deliver their messages in musical styles that range from pop ballad to jazz, from classic to
contemporary folk and gospel. “The strong musical appeal of PAPURI! 20 is just where it starts,” says
FEBC Philippines President Dan Andrew Cura, “Wait till you are drawn in and discover the impassioned
and relevant message in each song!”

“The album couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time,” says Jim San Juan, 2002 Katha Best Male
Pop Vocalist awardee, “In these times of lawlessness, senseless killings and our children being exposed
to all kinds of uncontrolled information on media, we need to be inspired by songs centered on God’s
endearing love – songs written in our own language and with the sentiments and passion that are
uniquely Filipino.”
